About Me

Petal
Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa
I am a Qualified teacher. I specialise in Preschool Education and the foundation Phase initially with a focus in art and isiXhosa. Over time these interests have grown and my focus has shifted and grown with my children. I love teaching art to children and adults as well as tutoring children who struggle at school for various reasons. I believe in justice and in using my time and resourses to right the wrongs of the past. As South Africa, we have painful and deeply horrific past. I hold that my faith in Jesus is not separated from justice work in in this world and that this is a call on my life as I live to honour God. Art and justice are linked in ways we can learn and be challenged as well as challenge others to live life with purpose. I walk through this life with Doug. We have 4 children together. I have written a great deal about ADHD. We are an ADHD family. My heart is that through our struggles and triumphs we can give some help and ideas, encouragement and insight, for others who are on a similar journey to ours. My Hope is that you will be inspired to get invloved in creating and enjoying art in the city of Cape Town and indeed the world.

Sharing the love of books

An Invitiation to join in the book fun on The Kids Book Shelf

I am extending an invitation to you the reader. I would love you to write to me by email and include your favourite children and young adult books. In this way I can compile a list of books that you recommend.

I would love you to write me a book review on any of your best reads so we can all benefit from your good read.

A Note about the books on this site

The books on this blog have not all been read by me, Caren, nor by my kids. This makes it difficult to assure parents that the content of the books shared for reading are the sorts of books that you might like you child to be exposed to. Therefore the onus is on YOU the reader and parent to ensure that the books you choose from this site are suitable for you child's age and stage and your own moral conscience and convictions.
The books shared on this site are varied and come NOT only from a Christian ethos but include all sorts of slants and views on life and the world we live in.
